As a Buffini & Company Certified Business Coach for almost 12 years now, I can attest to the powerful results my clients have seen from face-to-face contact with the people in their business database.  In the Work-by Referral System, we call these “Pop-bys.”   This means that you get out and “pop-by” your favorite people and biggest advocates regularly.  You’ll want to bring a small gift of appreciation with a “pop-by” tag reminding them that you’re never too busy for your referrals.

Why are pop-bys a sure-fire way to increase your income?  Face-to-face contact is the best way to stay top-of mind, and the small gift you leave will keep your clients thinking of you long after you’ve left.  After all, the whole idea behind working by referral is to have your relationships always think of you first when they think of your industry.        

One of my favorite stories is about a business owner and mother I once coached.  Her production always seemed to suffer in the fall season because her lead generation activities would lessen during the summer while her kids were out of school.  She struggled with needing to maintain her business production while also wanting to spend more time with her kids.  I encouraged her to take a “both/and” approach to this situation.  She could keep up with her lead generation and spend more time with her kids if she focused on pop-bys.  I challenged her to do 10 a week and bring her kids along, promising them a fun reward after the day’s work.  She not only ended-up having the best fall season to-date in her business, but she also spent the summer teaching her kids the value and reward of a good work ethic.       

The bottom line is, I’ve never had a client do 10 pop-bys a week consistently for 3 months and not receive a spike in the amount of referrals by the 4th month.  Now, those are results you can truly take to the bank!
