For over 20 years, Rachael Yeaman, corporate coach and REALStrengths® expert for Buffini & Company, has helped clients uncover their strengths. As such, she works closely with Dave McGhee, vice president of coaching. They, along with the company’s coaches, have seen the magic that happens when clients start flourishing by leaning into their own strengths.

What’s unique about REALStrengths, Yeaman said, is that the program, based on positive psychology, is designed to help people on their whole journey of mastering their strengths. It not only tells you what they are; it also tells you how to use them. And it illustrates what the opposites of your particular strengths are as well so that your interactions with others will be more positive.

“Honoring and leaning into your own authenticity and not trying to fit into a box of what you think you should be is an important first step in your journey to success,” McGhee said.

“To be able to build a business with your natural gifts and abilities is the priority. Then, fulfillment and money follows,” he added. “When you start to focus on who you are, the magic happens.”

Everyone wants to be seen, heard and validated.

Communication disconnections are the main reasons deals fail and relationships fall apart, Yeaman said. If we are not aware of our communication style, we will not be able to recognize those of others. 

“Elements of great communication are at the heart of everything we do,” she noted. “Fifty-five percent of all communication is non-verbal. We are nine times more likely to be criticized for under communication than over communication. It takes people on average five to nine times to actually hear what other people are telling them.”

Trust is the Foundation

Authenticity is what fuels connection. Connection fuels trust. And trust is what is required for any business to take place.

“Lead by positive intent,” Yeaman advised. “Know the other’s strengths instead of guessing what they are thinking. Honor people for who they are and the gifts that they have to offer.”

“Although it may be a bit scary, don’t be afraid to be vulnerable,” she added.

“Ask for feedback to get clarity. Don’t be afraid of conflict as long as it’s respectful. Clear is kind. Kind is clear,” she said.
