Looking Back to Move Forward
Make this your year! Successful professionals look at their misses as opportunities to learn. They don’t fear failure, they keep moving forward by performing at their highest level. When something doesn’t go as planned, they pause to analyze what worked, what didn’t and then create much-needed business solutions to reach their goals.
Now is a great time to reflect on the last 12 months and consider what has helped you to grow your business and what you can refine to have your best year.
Here are four steps to help you learn from the past so that you can move forward.
- Review Your Goals. Many people set their goals at the beginning of the year and then don’t give them a second thought. Make a point to review your goals each month, adjust as needed and then look at them each day so that you have clarity on your aspirations.
- Identify Discrepancies. If you’re missing the mark on your business or personal goals take time to consider what you expected and what happened. This information will help you to bridge the gaps and achieve your goals in the future.
- Analyze Your Mistakes. When an initiative is not doing well, analyzing what needs to shift can help you adjust to reach your goals. A simple way to do this is to make a list of what is working (and what is not) so that you can change course.
- Discover the Lessons. Anyone who runs their own business is bound to get off track. However, when you take time to consider the repetitive patterns that prevent you from reaching your goals you can choose another course of action and keep moving forward.
When you adopt a growth mindset, you will start to see mistakes as opportunities and learn from them to reach new levels of success.
