After a very difficult year, many people are looking to refocus on their health goals in 2021. I recently interviewed Nick Hardwick, former center for the San Diego Chargers, about Lose Like a Lineman – the nutrition and fitness plan that helped him to lose almost 100 pounds in five months upon his retirement from the NFL, and keep it off. Here are some of the top takeaways:

Be Determined

Nick encountered many challenges and setbacks on his way to becoming an NFL player, but he never gave up. When he didn’t meet a specific goal, he would recalibrate and shift his focus to another. Whatever happened, he was always moving forward, never standing still. The same principles applied when it came to refocusing on his health and well-being upon his retirement. Undaunted by the statistics, he dove into the science of nutrition and health, vowed to meet his weight-loss goals and resolved not to give up until he reached and maintained his target.

Elevate Your Dreams

The keys to Nick’s success were short-term goals. When he ticked one short-term goal off his to-do list, he moved to the next, then the next and so on. This extremely powerful matrix of interim goal-setting enabled him to see a path forward to his ultimate objectives.

The truth is, the magic of success is far more ordinary and sequential than people think. What’s the picture? What’s the vision? Where do you want to go? It all comes back to the dream. When you visualize a dream, work towards it and then keep elevating it as you go. Doing this means you will progress, day by day and step by step.

Have a Clear Structure

When it comes to realizing any dream, whether that’s losing weight, getting healthy or building a solid business, you must have a clear and simple structure for success in place. Having a game plan for your day is vital – you need to know what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it. As long as you stick to the plan, you will succeed – simplicity of execution is absolutely vital to success.
