One question Brian and I always ask whenever we present is, “How many of you, by a show of hands, possess untapped potential?” Nearly every hand in the room goes up. Many of us know we have untapped potential, but we’re not sure how to reach it. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your talent.

1. How are you wired? We’re all wired differently. When you understand the fundamental structure of your personality, you can maximize your natural gifts and develop the skills you need to complement these gifts. To figure out how you’re wired, answer the following questions:

  • How do you learn/process information? Do you understand new information quickly or do you need time to process it?
  • How do you communicate with others? Do you prefer to get to the point and stick to the facts or do you like to paint a picture for people?
  • How do you prefer others to communicate with you?
  • How do you like to spend your time?
  • What part of a task are you most enthusiastic about? Are you excited about the planning process or do you excel at tying up the loose ends at end?

Once you’ve identified your natural abilities, you can embrace your strengths and identify your weaknesses. Your Heritage Profile is a powerful tool that highlights your dominant gifts and abilities, while providing valuable insight into yourself. It’ll not only help you understand how you’re wired, it’ll also help you leverage your strengths.

2. What are you passionate about? The word “passion” originates from the Latin word “passio,” meaning “suffering, enduring.” It makes sense. I am extremely passionate about every aspect of real estate: buying, selling, owning and speaking about it! That passion helped me endure many challenges and setbacks along the way. With any worthwhile pursuit, there are going to be challenges; having passion will help you see past them and use your talents.

3. Set goals. Goals help you focus, that is Follow On Course Until Success. When you focus on your goals, obstacles that were once insurmountable become small hurdles. Keep your eyes on the prize and you’ll feel more encouraged to use your talents.

4. Get a coach. A coach is a person helps you move from one place in your business to another, better place. They encourage you to reach a higher level. The Coaches at Buffini & Company will help you identify potential missteps and guide you where you want to go. If you don’t already have a Coach, now is the time to get one.

5. Connect with successful people who are further along their journeys. One of the best ways to maximize your talent is to learn from someone who has already been down the road you want to travel. Seek out a few successful people to connect with, and choose people to admire and strive to emulate. Most successful people are willing and happy to help someone along their journey.
